On May 26, 2025, a key meeting was held by the Reforms and Welfare Bench of Aligarh Muslim University, involving its four major commission councils:

  • Teachers Commission Council

  • Non-Teaching Commission Council

  • Students Commission Council

  • Alumni Commission Council

The meeting took place in front of the historic Old Sir Syed House, near the office of the esteemed Professor Irfan Habib. It was attended by several retired senior professors, former non-teaching staff, and alumni who had once been students at AMU.

After thoughtful discussion and consensus, the Reforms and Welfare Bench collectively decided to submit a formal request to the AMU Court recommending Professor Mohammad Zafar Mahfooz Nomani, current Chairman of the Faculty of Law, to be appointed as the next Honorary Treasurer of AMU.

This recommendation reflects the Bench’s ongoing commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, and experienced leadership in the university’s financial and administrative affairs.

The move is seen as a progressive step in aligning the university’s legacy with its future aspirations, in the spirit of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s vision for inclusive and reform-driven education.
